The ABCs of RMDs

Many people are familiar with IRAs, but few people understand the rules and regulations surrounding them, such as the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). In this article, RMB Wealth Advisor and CFP® Loren Knaster explains how to navigate the complicated rules associated with RMDs.

Amplifying the Rewards of Charitable Giving with Donor-Advised Funds

Versatile. Powerful. Enduring. Words to describe a perfectly tailored suite, a timeless Shakespearean sonnet, and, in the world of Wealth Management, a donor-advised fund (DAF). DAFs are an increasingly popular charitable giving tool that allows donors to accomplish their philanthropic goals in a targeted, tax-advantaged manner.  Erica Tarantur (CFP®, CIMA®, Wealth Advisor) reviews the features and advantages of DAFs.

A Personal Perspective: From Sue Christoph

We often say our greatest asset is our people. Our 120+ employees are all part of one big team that embraces RMB’s values of authenticity, excellence, rigor, solutions, and results. To highlight the individuals inside our firm, we periodically conduct interviews that offer a glimpse of their unique stories. Recently, we sat down with Sue Christoph, who is a partner and senior wealth manager.

Time to Dust Off Your Life Insurance Policy

Many people purchase life insurance in one form or another after a significant life event, but then fail to reevaluate their policy as life goes on. In addition to your own changing circumstances, life insurance prices and features change regularly, so it’s a good idea to revisit your plan every few years. One of our advisors, Benjamin Albrecht, CFP®, provides a quick overview of factors to consider.

Benchmarks: What They Can — and Cannot — Tell You

Benchmarks can play an important role in measuring the success of investments and investment managers, but they do not provide a means of evaluating the overall performance of an investor’s diversified portfolio. This article explains why, and also highlights how RMB works with our clients to build customized asset allocations that address their unique circumstances and objectives.

Going Abroad: Expanding Investment Opportunities Outside the U.S.

Over the past few decades, global growth has increasingly come from countries other than the United States. However, because investors tend to have a bias to their home country, many U.S. investors may be missing out on a large opportunity set of investments around the world. We believe the case for including international markets in equity allocations is strong and enduring—and that quality trumps domicile when investing in stocks for the long term.

Market Perspective & Investment Outlook

The first quarter of 2016 was a tale of two halves: from the end of 2015 to the market low on February 11, 2016, the S&P 500 was down 11%; from February 11 to the end of the first quarter, the index was up 13%. This volatility was driven by fluctuating oil prices and slow growth abroad, which have weakened earnings and consumer confidence. While we expect volatility to continue, we believe some of the headwinds will begin to subside in the second half of this year.
